There are a number of different types of shared accommodation but the 2 primary types tend to be houseshare/flatshare and rooms for rent. Room shares are usually another type, but are more uncommon inside the United Kingdom than in other places (though they are not unheard of). Subletting is typically forbidden under most standard tenancy contracts and is best avoided, due mainly to the decrease in legal rights afforded to everybody involved.
