To ensure the longest life for your deck take the time to maintain the finish and inspect the boards annually. Clean and reseal your deck every few years for long lasting results. The most important coat of deck finish is the first coat. The moisture content of the wood must be less than 20%. A 12-15% moisture content is ideal. Lumber that has been pressure treated may still be damp inside even when it looks totally dry. Wait at least a month or a whole season prior to application of the finish on treated wood. You can tell the wood is ready when it will soak up water easily.
